HISTORY
Forming of the state system of intellectual property protection in Belarus was initiated in 1992 by establishing the State Patent Office and the Administration for Copyright and Related Rights under the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus.
In 1993, first laws of the Republic of Belarus on protection of industrial property rights titles – inventions, industrial designs and trademarks were adopted. In 1996, the Law of the Republic of Belarus on Copyright and Related Rights passed.
As prescribed by Decree No. 66 of the President of the Republic of Belarus dated February 12, 2004, protection of intellectual property rights is provided by the National Center of Intellectual Property, which acts on the ground of the Statute validated by the resolution No. 641 of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus dated May 31, 2004.
